GCP conducts research and analysis, and engages with international policy processes relevant to all tropical forest countries. While we maintain breadth of vision, our strategy focuses on two key forested regions of critical importance: the nations that share Amazonia, in particular Brazil, Colombia and Peru and Indonesia.
These countries are central to 2 of the world’s greatest tropical forests regions. In Brazil deforestation has declined over 4-5 years by 70%. Conversely, Indonesia, is the largest contributor to climate change from deforestation. There is an opportunity to transfer solutions from South to South. Both still face huge deforestation pressures from agricultural expansion to produce commodities for outside markets, and both have seen remarkable innovation and strong commitments across sectors to reduce deforestation.
