The special two-hour discussion was part of London Climate Action Week, and focused on what has been happening in Brazil since the last climate summit, and the country’s worsening social and environmental crises.

The event opened with remarks from Txai Suruí, the Brazilian Indigenous leader who spoke at the opening ceremony of COP26.

A panel discussion with Txai, civil society organizations and finance representatives followed. It focused on how to turn the strong commitments on forests at COP26 into action, while crucially including Brazilian Indigenous peoples and local communities as a central part of it. We will also speak about how the finance sector can contribute and progress on their deforestation-free portfolio commitments by 2025.

Speakers on the panel:

  • Txai Suruí – Brazilian Indigenous leader
  • Graham Stock – BlueBay Asset Management and co-chair of the Investor Policy Dialogue on Deforestation (IPDD)
  • Louisa Casson – Head of Forests and Food, Greenpeace UK
  • Niki Mardas – Executive Director, Global Canopy
  • Moderated by Yula Rocha – People’s Palace Projects.

The event was live streamed from Chatham House in London.
