Global Canopy welcomes the TNFD final Recommendations for nature-related risk management and disclosure

After two years of design and development, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (‘TNFD’) has published its final Recommendations for nature-related risk management and disclosure.

Niki Mardas, Global Canopy Executive Director, says:

“As a co-founding partner of the TNFD, we are so pleased to welcome the final TNFD Recommendations and Guidance on disclosure.

Following the establishment of the TNFD more than two years ago, this is a pivotal moment in the global response to the nature crisis. Until now, there hasn’t been a unified framework that leads and enables companies and financial institutions to disclose and act upon their nature-related risks and opportunities.

We are huge believers in the power of transparency – and the ever-increasing accountability that builds behind it. We’ve seen this on deforestation, our core area of work where two-thirds of the problem is driven by markets – and we hope that this historic launch will be the start of ever-more effective transparency and action to tackle impacts on nature and people right across the board.

Huge thanks to all who have worked so incredibly hard to get to this point. We know that the model of open and collaborative innovation will continue as the recommendations are adopted by the market, and continue to evolve and strengthen over the years.”

Global Canopy is one of four Founding Partners of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), alongside UNDP, UNEP FI and WWF. Together, we formed the initiative to bring together a Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures in September 2020.
